A remake of the “C’etait un Rendez-Vois,” a famous 1976 short film following a speeding car through Paris, stars car aficionado Jay Leno, entitled “The Fast and the Famous”. Mr. Leno, under the direction of Jeremy Hart, gets behind the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG as the cameras kiss the pavement from Sunset Boulevard, into Beverly Hills, and back up into the canyons.

Everyone knows Jay Leno is a not just a comedian, he owns over 200 vehicles, has his own column in Popular Mechanics, showcasing his automotive expertise, and he reviews cars for The Sunday Times. I think it’s safe to say that although his day job may be late night host, he has just as many credentials when he’s moonlighting as a car specialist.

The idea for the remake developed when Leno and Hart were discussing the possibility of finding a track similar to the one in “Rendezous” in L.A. After a spitballing session between Leno and Hart, whom have been working together for a decade, a 13 mile track was decided because of its ability to  showcase the diverse streets of L.A; between the inner city, the coast, and the hills.

Throughout the film Leno reminisces about the good old days when Steve McQueen and James Coburn would race on the famous Mulholland Drive, a popular destination for movie sets, among other noteworthy celebrity west coast car stories.

As for the films score, it’s monopolized by the sweet purr of the SLS AMG engine and the noise tires make as they accelerate out of turns. And just to balance out the motor sounds a little is the concise commentary by one of the world’s biggest car lovers, Mr. Leno.

If your contemplating buying a Mercedes-Benz from a Chicago used Mercedes-Benz dealer make sure you check out “The Fast and the Famous”, not only with this video reinforce your doubts about purchasing a SLS AMG, but you’re going to want to book a trip to L.A.

The least you owe yourself is a test drive at your local Chicago used Mercedes-Benz dealer.
